I have a front porch that is approximately a foot and a half tall and about 20 foot long. I would like to plant a small hedge, shrub or something else that will live year round, but that will not get taller than the porch itself. I am in zone 6, the area gets the late afternoon sun, 4:00 p.m on, and gets a fair amount of water, as it will be right in front of all of the planters on the porch. It does have pretty good drainage, but can tend to stay moist on days that the sun doesn't hit it. Can you suggest something for this area. I really didn't want to do flowers, as I already have way too many beds to care for now. I know that this sounds like a very limited criteria, so any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated. |
Sounds like the perfect spot for Hosta, Bog Rosemary, or Cannas. Each of these plants will tolerate some sun, and all thrive in rich, moist soils. Be sure to amend the soil with lots of organic matter prior to planting, to help it drain quickly and to provide nutrients to the plants. |
