I have 5' shrub with fuzzy conical blooms, lavender in color. They have the same shape as buddliea. It was growing when I moved here. I have not seen another like it in the nurseries. The blooms are smaller in size than the butterfly bush. |
The plant is most likely Weigela. There are many cultivars with flowers ranging from pink to rose to brilliant red, and shades in between. Culture is the same as for Buddleia, full sun to partial shade, average garden soil and regular water during the summertime. Cut the shrub back to keep it in shape by pruning the stems that have flowered back by one-half. You can also prune out the oldest stems and branches to encourage new flowering stems. |
