I have numerous garden books; most list flowers and seeds by sun, shade, height, water needs, color, etc. I am looking for a source that will tell me when to plant what seeds. I want to be able to look under "June" and find a list of seeds that should be planted. Same for each of the other months. I can frequently get this information by looking up a particular flower but it takes forever to look through flower descriptions until I find one that says "plant this seed in June," or whatever date. I cannot believe there isn't a reference, somewhere, that goes by month on what to plant. Can you help?

Two excellent resources come immediately to mind; National Gardening Magazine, published by National Gardening Association, 160 Flynn Ave., Burlington, VT 05401, features a regional list of things "To Do in the Garden" in every issue. Typical gardening chores, suggestions for planting and pruning, and tips to help you plan ahead are included for all gardening regions in the U.S.

The second resource is the book Gardening Through the Year, by Hazel Evans. This book is divided into 12 chapters, one for each month of the year. It outlines major tasks, details techniques, and reminds gardeners of necessary chores. While it's not specific to California, it will certainly help you plan and maintain your garden.
