| I've noticed some small growths with green spines on the branches of my large pine trees. At first glance they look like small green pine cones (or miniature pineapples). The largest ones are only about an inch long . They grow about 3/4 of the way around the small branches and when they dry out they kill the end of the branch. In their dried form they look like brown seed balls with spines on them. Is this a disease of some sort or an insect infestation?? What can I do about them?? |
| Unfortunately, based on your description I am not sure whether you are describing bagworms (an insect which builds a little sack for itself) or pine oak gall rust (a fungus) or something else. You might wish to take a sample to your County Extension (548-3447) for a definite identification of the problem and the most up to date suggested controls for your area.
