| Hello! I purchased two climbing roses this spring, one of them is climbing wildly and the other is flowering but not vining. The flowering rose is supposed to be blue, but it's mauve, does it sound like I don't have a vining rose, or do they sometimes flower before they vine? |
| Some roses bloom only on "old wood" while others bloom on the current year's growth. This would possibly explain why one is blooming and the other has not. Some roses also put out a flush of new growth only in the spring, while others continue to grow throughout the season. Growth can also be largely affected by pruning practices and timing, so this might explain why one is "vining" while the other is not. With regard to the color, to my knowledge there is still no truly blue rose so your definition of the color may simply be normal for that rose -- colors also tend to vary based on soil type and the season and the weather as well as the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, without knowing specifically which roses you have, I can't give you a more exact answer. You might wish to double check with your supplier to make sure the roses are performing normally. |
