The symptoms you describe may be present in cases of both fusarium or verticillium wilt. The best way to avoid these is to plant resistant varieties, rotate your crops regularly, and clean up and destroy any debris from the infected plants. You might wish to consult with your County Extension (825-1701) for a more definite diagnosis.
