I am just now learning a little about gardening, we have just purchased our first house and are fortunate that it is beautifully landscaped. However, I haven't been able to find out how often a dogwood blooms. It appears to have some sort of bud growing all over it, but I thought it only bloomed once a year.

All species of Cornus bloom once each year, but the plant does produce berries and develops next year's leaf and flower buds during the summer months. The buds you're finding are either berries (from this spring's bloom), or vegetative buds for next year's show.
