Considering Tomatoes and Bitter Nightshade are both from the Nightshade Family, do I have to worry about cross-pollination creating poisonous tomatoes? |
It's an interesting question, but the answer is no. Since the portion of the plant you eat is the fruit that is formed from tissue of the tomato plant, its flavor and composition is genetically determined by that plant. A change in fruit by cross-pollination is not possible. Vegetable flowers will produce fruit only like the plant they are growing on, regardless of the pollen used to fertilize the flowers. |
