Acer palmatum, Japanese Maple is a slow growing tree to about 20'. It can be grown successfully if given shelter from hot, dry winds. Filtered shade is best, but it will grow in full sunshine. Japanese maples are sensitive to salts that build up in the soil so be sure to flood the soil occasionally to leach out excess salts, especially if you notice burning around the edges of the leaves.
