Balloon Flower's Blooming Period - Knowledgebase Question

I live in upstate New York and planted a balloon flower in a container on our deck. When I bought it, it had many buds; however, as they bloomed and I deadheaded, no new buds emerged from below and there was little if any new vertical growth. I am wondering if this is how this plant blooms and if there's anything I can do to prolong the blooming period.

These plants bloom once a year for several weeks and are considered a "long blooming" perennial. Apart from keeping the plant in good general health and deadheading, there isn't much more you can do to prolong it.
