How often should I water my outside plants (trees, flowers, etc.) in the heat of summer - everyday or every other day?

Plant growing in the soil have extensive root systems. They do not need daily watering. Annuals and perennial flowers may need water only every 2 or 3 days while shrubs and small trees can go for 5 - 7 days between watering.

Container plants need watering much more frequently. Depending on plant type, plant size, water holding ability of the growing medium, container size, sun exposure, etc. they may need watering anywhere from twice a day to once every two days. Daily watering is usually sufficient for container plants.
