I have crimson sweet watermelons. They are pollinating fine, but when the watermelons get to about 3 inches in diameter, they stop to grow. I notice that the skin of the melon becomes denser and softer and it loses its shine. What could be wrong?

Melons do best with a rich and moist soil. I suspect your melons need more water because that is what makes up the main part of the fruit and without it they "stall" for lack of a better word.
