I have a tropical waterlily in a small pond. However, I live in an area where it will freeze completely through. How can I store the waterlily during the winter?

Some gardeners keep them in a container of water indoors in a very bright spot; they may survive although they will not bloom unless the area is very bright. Others manage to store them by placing the root in damp sand and storing it it in a dark and cool but not cold spot for the winter. In general though the success rate with this method is rather low. Many gardeners simply consider them worthwile (if expensive) annuals and start afresh each spring.
