Prunus 'Shirotae' Mt. Fuji will reach a mature height of 20', growing wider than it is high. This tree has strong horizontal branching and will produce semidouble flowers which are pink in bud, white when fully open, and purplish pink as the flower fades. It blooms early in the season and is one of the more popular cultivars of flowering cherries.
Ornamental cherry trees require full sunshine and fast-draining, well aerated soils. Prune as little as possible and provide occasional summer watering once the tree is established. Mt. Fuji will adapt well to growing in most any garden and has deep roots, so gardening under it will be possible (which is not always the case with trees!).
