What would be the best type of tomato to grow for the purpose of making tomato sauce?

Generally serious cooks prefer the "paste" type tomatoes such as Viva Italia because they have a better texture for canning, making sauces and ketchup and so on, but I have made sauce for immediate use out of all kinds of tomatoes and they tasted fine to me.
