| As you probably know we are experincing a record heat again this year in Texas. My question is how often do I need to water my San Augustein lawn and my shrubs? Some of my neighbors are watering daily and their grass looks great but they just about pass out when they get the water bill. I want the best of both worlds a green lawn and a water bill that can be paid without taking out a second mortgage. Also I have lost my shrubs for the past 3 years. Should they be watered more often than the lawn or at the same time? |
| It is hard to say exactly how much water you need to apply, since this varies with factors such as weather and soil type. Generally speaking, plants should be watered so that their entire root zone is moistened. So, for shrubs, this might mean a deep soaking once a week. With shallower-rooted lawns, a shallower watering twice a week or more may be necessary, depending on soil type. You might try a watering schedule that gives the lawn one-half inch of water twice a week, and see how that goes. As the weather cools, you can decrease that amount.
