Some gardeners will use a variety of methods ranging from special fabric row covers to temporary poly tunnels to cold frames to extend the season. Perhaps the biggest gain can be made by protecting your plants from the first freeze of the season, because often that is followed by several more weeks of warm weather. For some tips on how to do that along with suggested schedules for fall plantings you might take a look at Mel Bartholomew's "Square Foot Gardening" ISBN 0-87857-340-2.
