I was wondering if you could suggest an evergreen shrub that would make a living wall. I need to block my view from a housing development that is going up behind my property. I live in Redmond, WA (USDA Zone 8). I'd like shrubs that grow to about 10-15 feet high and are easy to maintain. The faster they grow, the better! Thanks for any help you can give. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone I've asked. |
Plant recommendations for the site you mention will probably vary from person to person, depending upon their own preferences. Thuja (Arborvitae) are good choices for their evergreen, dense growth. They're not especially fast growing, but they are very attractive. Photinia is a broadleaf evergreen that takes abuse and continues to thrive. My personal favorite is camellia, which takes well to pruning and provides bloom from January through February. Holly (Ilex) is also a good evergreen choice, but slow growing. A really fast growing shrub that remains green all year and provides summer bloom is Escallonia. No bad habits and quite reliable. Hope the above suggestions help! |
