I bought my stargazer lily last Sunday and transplanted it into a new pot. That night I sprayed my stargazer with water and after a while noticed that the flower bud is turning brown. What did I do wrong? What can I do to stop the buds from turning brown? |
Transplanting can be stressful to a plant and it's usually best to avoid transplanting if it's just about to bloom or is in full bloom. I'd guess the act of transplanting shocked your lily. Since flowering takes a lot of energy out of a plant, I think your Stargazer responded to the trauma of being transplanted by aborting the flowers. It's sad, but your plant probably won't flower this year. Cut the flower stems off but leave the foliage alone. Leaves provide energy to the bulb and should be allowed to yellow and wither before being cut back. If you give your Stargazer proper care it should flower for you next year. |
