What is an appropriate strain (if it exists) of blueberry bush that will do acceptably in Pasadena California? |
Rabbiteye blueberres can be grown in Southern California, due to their heat tolerance and lack of need for a winter chill. These varieties still have the same requirements for acid soil, so be sure to amend the planting bed with plenty of peatmoss and mulch with peat as well. 'Sharpblue' is self-fertile and produces in April or May. 'Bluebelle', 'Southland', and 'Tifblue' require cross-pollination, and all bear in May and June. |
