In your California garden you can have flowers blooming all year around! The real labor comes in preparing the planting site by amending the soil with organic matter so the roots will have nutrients and a comfortable place to live. You can grow the following plants for color during all four seasons: Early spring choices include Snapdragon, Pot Marigold, Campanula, Clarkia, Larkspur, Pansy, Forget-Me-Not. Summer flowering plants: Ageratum, Celosia, Cleome, Coreopsis, Cosmos, Helichrysum, Impatiens, Petunia, Phlox, Verbena and Zinnia. Autumn flowering plants include Chrysanthemum, Aster and Dahlia. Winter flower color can be provided by Dianthus, Purple Coneflower, Geranium, Candytuft and ornamental kale.
