I have two Tree Roses in large pots on each side of my walk. They are new this growing year. How do I keep them over the winter. We are zone 5. Do I take them out of the pots and dig them into my garden? Bring them into my house? Big and heavy!

There are two approaches to keeping these roses over winter. One is to bring them indoors into a basement or garage where they will be very cool yet sheltered from extreme cold, the other is to bury the pot on its side at an angle so that the "trunk" and graft can also be buried beneth a mound of mulch and soil for insulation. When deciding which course to take, keep in mind too that many decorative pots are not frostproof and that a moving dolly can make moving even the heaviest pots a possibility. Good luck with your tree roses!
