I have a mostly sunny flower bed in the front of my house. It has green bushes as a backgroung with tiger lilies planted in front of them. After the lilies I have planted some hyacinth bulbs and in the front of the bed I have planted some mixed crocus bulbs. Can you suggest some flowers that will lend color through the rest of the seasons. I would prefer flowers that return each year.

There are lots of possibilities. Here are a few suggestions to get you started: daylilies (hemerocallis), purple coneflower (echinacea), yarrow (achillea), sedum, Black Eyed Susan (rudbeckia), coreopsis, Siberian Iris, veronica, perennial salvia, Japanese anemones. For more information about planning, planting and caring for perennials, you might like to take a look at a book or two. Here are some I like:

Perennials for Dummies by Marcia Tatroe ISBN 0764550306; Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Perennials by Ellen Phillips and C. Colston Burrell ISBN: 0875965709; and The Well-Tended Perennial Garden : Planting & Pruning Techniques by Tracy Disabato-Aust, Steven M. Still ISBN: 0881924148.
