|We have one pomegranate tree with nearly two dozen pomegranates. The fruit is of various sizes but several are quite large and are beginning to turn red. When should we begin to pick the fruit?
|The fruit usually ripens 6-7 months after flowers appear. Growers generally consider the fruit ready for harvest if it makes a metallic sound when tapped. The fruit must be picked before it's over mature or it will tend to crack open. Size is not generally an indication of maturity.
The fruits should not be pulled off but clipped close to the base so as to leave no stem to cause damage in handling or storage.
Hope this helps you determine the ripeness of your fruits.
