|According to Michael Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, seeds from dogwood trees (Cornus florida) need a cold period or stratification for 100 to 130 days at 41 F before they will germinate. You can mimic this by placing them in the refrigerator or by planting them in pots and allowing the pots to chill in a protected spot outdoors. You can also try simply planting some seeds in the fall in the location where you would like to have a tree. Keep in mind however that seedlings will probably vary significantly from the parent tree. Good luck with your project!
