I have a garden area that is partial shade. It usually gets late mid to late afternoon sun. My questions is - will peonies grow there?

Peonies prefer some shade from hot afternoon sun so yours should be quite happy planted there. Prepare the soil prior to planting by digging about 18" deep and mixing in a good dose of aged manure or compost. Amending the soil in this way will give the roots of your plants a nice moist, nutrient rich place to explore. Backfill the hole slightly and then set the new plants so they're planted at the same level as they were growing in the containers. Peonies like to be watered regularly, so plan to supply about one inch of water each week druing the growing season. Following the above guidelines should enable your Peonies to thrive for many years.
