How can I start seeds collected from a catalpa tree? Or is this method a waste of time?

According to the American Horticultural Society's book, "Plant Propagation," catalpa seeds are easy to germinate. They suggest gathering the green pods as they ripen to brown, before they split and spill their seeds. They might split when dry, or you can cut them open to remove the seeds. Store seeds dry in sealed plastic bags at room temperature. Sow in early to midspring or in autumn when temperatures are 59 to 70 degrees F. Good luck with your germination!
