|What is the best way to prepare ground for grapes? What type of ground is best? What is a good food for grapes? What is the best arbor for grapes? Do you have a plan to build that arbor(Wire)?
|Grapes do well in many soil types and with only average fertility; a slightly acid pH is preferrred. In selecting a site, keep in mind grapes always require full sun, good air circulation and good soil drainage. (Many grapes are planted on slopes because the drainage is improved and the airflow is also good.) Any soil preparation should be deep because grapes are extremely deep rooted. To determine what is needed for your particular site in terms of fertilizing or soil preparation you will need to run some basic soil tests first. Your County Extension (643-1660) should be able to help with the tests and interpreting the results. They should also be able to suggest varieties known to do particularly well in your area. Unfortunately I do not have the url handy for plans for an arbor although there are some available at the following website if you do a search for "grape" (That site is temporarily not working at the moment so I can't get it for you.): http://www.hcs.ohio-state.edu/... Good luck with your grapes!|
