My evergreen shrubs have dead branches on the inside of their boughs. Can I cut the branches back now or do I wait for spring?

Based on your description I am not sure what you are describing. On pines, for instance, you may be seeing a normal occurence where some of the needles brown and are shed, or a case of interior branches being shaded out, but this could also be an abnormal occurrence. You might wish to consult with your local County Extension (270-2781) to determine if what you are seeing is normal for your shrubs, or not. In addition, depending on the type of shrub, the branches might or might not regrow after the needle drop (or pruning) so it is important to make sure there is no serious problem.
