Is there any good trick to keep the ground moist to encourage germination? |
A 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch will help maintain soil moisture, maintain cooler soil temperatures, reduces weed germination, and can be turned into the soil at the next planting season. As it breaks down it adds nutrients to the soil. Any organic matter can be used as mulch. Try compost, bark, wood chips, straw, or pine needles. In addition, water slowly and deeply to allow water to seep to a depth of about 3 inches during seed germination. Don't "Sprinkle" with a hose, which doesn't moisten the soil deep enough and causes a build up of salts. Good luck with your seed germination! |
