Making separate holes is time-consuming, so an easy way to place bulbs is to remove the top layer (appropriate depth) of soil from the entire area that you are going to plant, place the bulbs, and then cover the area with soil. If you want a "natural look" some gardeners gently toss the bulbs in and plant them where they land! Spacing depends on the particular type of bulb. For example, tulips can be spaced 3-6 inches apart; crocus 2-3 inches apart. If you have spacing questions for particular bulbs, send another email to the Q&A site for www.burpee.com.
