I found some magnolia seed pods, under a tree. Can I just put these in some dirt and expect a tree to appear? |
Magnolia seeds will sprout, but they have some very particular requirements. Begin by mising the seeds with dry potting soil, placing in a plastic bag, and refrigerating for four months. Then take the seeds out and plant them in moistened potting soil, just covering them with soil. (Seeds need light to germinate.) Place plastic wrap over the trays or pots to help hold in moisture. Keep at temperatures of about 50F and the seeds will germinate in about 120 days. |
