Everyday I pass by a beautiful crabapple tree. I would feel silly asking the owners what variety it is so I wondered if you might know. I can't remember what color the flowers are (which would help) but it has hundreds of very small crabapples, perhaps marble size, and they are bright orange. They stay on the tree after all the leaves have fallen. |
If the fruit is round, it's probably Evereste. The fruit on this tree is orange-red, about one-inch in diameter, and hangs on the branches until mid-winter. If the fruit is oval, it might be Centennial. This tree has red flower buds that open to a showy white. If you approached the owners, you might be surprised at their warm response. Most gardeners love to hear compliments, and most love sharing information. And, with the above information, you can ask them whether the tree is Evereste or Centennial. Hope this helps. |
