I would like to give lily bulbs as a gift for my April 15th wedding. How soon can I purchase them and how should I store them so they do not sprout before they are given away?

Lily bulbs are commonly available for planting in the spring (as well as in the fall). In my experience the best thing to do would be to reserve an order for a shipping date just prior to your wedding. This way the bulbs can remain in professional storage conditions for as long as possible, thus reducing the chance of premature sprouting. You might also consider planting them in pots so that, should they sprout, they will be more easily transportable and less likely to become damaged.
