I have a nice yellow mum that has turned purple . Could you tell me why . I also planted some that get full sun most of the day but are turning brown and wilted . ( like old lettucce ) How do I know if a plant ( mum ) has been hanging around for a while besides the normal reasons. When I brought them they looked great. It is oct. 26 I just bought them in the last week or two.

I bought mums last September and they keep blooming over and over again. When they get all burnt looking I just trim them right down and overnight they start getting green and healthy and blooming again.

Some mums change colors that way naturally as the blossoms age.

All newly planted mums require careful attention to soil preparation and watering or they may wilt. This is especially true, however, with those that are very potbound when purchased. In some cases, too, they are used to daily watering at the gorwers and it is difficult for them to adjust to growing under garden conditions.

For the above reasons some people consider mums to be the equivalent of cut flowers -- a pretty but ephemeral decoration. If you are planning to grow them as perennials your best bet is to purchase them as early in the season as possible (spring is best if you can find them) so they can become well established before undergoing the stresses of blooming and winter weather.

Mums change colors according to were you put them and how much sun they get.A yellow mum planted on different sides of your house will be different colors.

My white mum did this in June. I poured fungicide mixture into the soil & trimmed it to approx 2 inches above soil. Now it's blooming beautifully! No sign of brownish blooms.
