|Is there a tree that I can plant in a large container or pot that will grow to about 6' or 8'. I plan to put it on a patio under a patio cover, it will get early morning sun, only till about ten o'clock or so. For the most part it will be protected from wind and rain.
|There are many small, slow-growing trees that will adapt to growing in containers, but relatively few will be happy under the shady conditions you describe. The best candidates for the situation include Acer palmatum (Japanese maple), Davidia involucrata (Dove tree), Laurus nobilis (Sweet Bay) and a few of the tree ferns, such as Blechnum, Cyathea cooperi, and Dicksonia.|
