|My daughter is in a class at school and we are
working on an out door class room, we need to find information on eather virvurnem or is it viburnum or are they two different shrubs.
our questions are 1. what color is this plant in the spring 2. what color is this plant in the fall. 3.Does this plant get berries or fruit? 4. what wildlife will this plant attract?
5.How big will this plant grow to be? 6.What type of area will this plant grow in? 7. Does it do well in shade or sun?
|There are many types of viburnum and they are quite varied in terms of fall color, ultimate size and color and quantity of berries. They are all popular with a number of berry-eating birds. To research this group of plants you might want to take a look at a book or two about trees and shrubs. Michael Dirr has written several, but the most specific information can be found in his "Manual of Woody Landscape Plants" which is often found in libraries. An internet search for viburnum will also yield a great deal of information. You should also be able to find books at the library about gardening or landscaping to attract birds and wildlife. One I particularly like is the National Wildlife Federation's "Gardening for Wildlife: How to Create a Beautiful Backyard Habitat for Birds, Butterflies and Other WIldlife" by Craig Tufts and Peter Loewer ISBN0-87596-675-6. Your local chapter of the Audubon Society should also be able to help you select the best ones for attracting birds in your local area. Good luck with your project!|
