I have a beautiful redbud planted in memory of my daughter the spring after she passed away. It has been successfully transplanted and loves its new home but is in desperate need of pruning. When is the best time to prune it?

These trees usually develop a fairly uniform shape all on their own if grown in full sun, otherwise in partial shade or shade they may develop an uneven outline due to reaching in one direction or another for light. This is actually considered part of their charm and contributes to their great adaptability in terms of suitability for a variety of growing conditions. If pruning is absolutely necessary I would suggest early spring.
