How much drainage would I need for a poppy growing in one section of an egg carton.

If the carton is plastic, punch a few holes (3 or 4) in the bottom with the tip of an ink pen. If the carton is cardboard, it should wick water away from the roots without any drainage holes.

Since the egg carton compartments are very small, be sure to transplant your poppies within 2-3 weeks or the roots may become overcrowded.
