I just read that there is a new product on the market, a red-colored plastic mulch that will increase the yield on my tomato plants over standard black plastic mulch. Is this true, and if so where can I purchase some?

Yes, research has shown that red mulch will result in higher early fruit yields on tomatoes. Something in the different wavelengths of light reflected off the red mulch is the reason for the difference in plant yields. Burpee carries a Reflective Red Mulch (see page 111 of the 1999 catalogue) in garden-size packaging.

If you don't have a copy of the Burpee catalogue, here is how to get one:

Burpee Seed Co.; 032763 Burpee Building; Warminster, PA 18974; 1-800-888-1447; http://garden.burpee.com/
Catalogue requesting web site: http://www.burpee.com/freecat....

Good luck with your tomatoes!
