|I'm looking for a hazelnut tree suitable for our home in coastal california. The weather is: very foggy most mornings and evenings, sunny during the day. Temps vary between 40-70's with most days around 50-60 year round. The tree would need to be in a continer as we are planning to buy a house in the next two to three years. Thanks for your help.

|Probably the best choice for you is Corylus cornuta californica, the Western Hazelnut. It's native to the damp slopes of the northern coast ranges of California. It is more of a shrub than a tree, with open, spreading habit to 12' high. The nuts are small but flavorful.
