| Callicarpa seeds may be viable, but there are no specifics in germinating them. If you want to propagate an existing beautyberry, why not take a cutting or use a process called layering? Cuttings can be taken from semi-ripe wood (new growth that has started to develop bark), in mid-summer. Use a 6"-8" long piece, strip the lower leaves but allow the upper leaves to remain. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone and place in a pot of moistened potting soil. When the cutting has developed roots it will begin to produce new leaves. Transplant into the garden after it has developed a substantial root system. Or, propagate by layering. Take a pliable stem and bend it down so it makes contact with the soil. Wound the stem slightly, hold the injury open with a small pebble, and bury it in the soil. Anchor both sides of the stem to keep the wound under ground. The stem should produce roots at the site of the injury. Once a healthy root system has developed, cut the stem away from the parent plant and transplant into its new garden site.
