My son is doing a science fair project on the effects of adding different substances (bleach, aspirin, soda) to cut flowers to see their effect (ie. do some additives prolong the life of the cut flowers etc.) He is having trouble finding research on the possible effects these may have on the plants. He has found info pertaining to preserving cut flowers-they all suggest adding the floral preservatives that come from the florist and refer to "research indicates that is will prolong the life of your flowers" but we cannot find "the research" Where is the best place for him to find information regarding what cut flowers need to live and what effect adding these "homemade " additives may have on the flowers?????

The following web page from the University of Michigan provides both recipes and an explanation of why they work as well as otherways tomake cut flowers last. He might find additional information by searching here http://plantfacts.ohio-state.e... using "preservative" as a search term. I hope this helps.
