This is actually a question from my mother who lives in New York City (Queens county). She has a mock orange blossom and she wants to know if it is too late to prune it and if so, when is the proper time to prune it.

Mockorange (Philadelphus coronarius) should be pruned in the spring right after it flowers. If you prune it now in winter you will be cutting off next year's flowers. To prune, periodically remove some of the oldest branches at the base of the shrub or, if the shrub is very old and overgrown, cut it off at the base to force all new, vigorous growth.
