Recently my in-laws returned from a visit to Austrailia/New Zeland Area. They found a plant like a christmas cactus, but was of a "giant variety". They tried to bring a small plant back with them, but customs would not let them bring it into the US.

My question is: Is this truly a "giant variety" of Christmas cactus, and where could one purchase such a plant in the US?

Schlumbergera bridgesii is the Christmas cactus. It is sometimes confused with Zygocactus truncactus, which produces much longer leaves than Schlumbergera. It's possible to purchase seeds of both Schlumbergera and Zygocactus, but I can't find any live plants. Try contacting the Cactus Mall (http://www.cactus-mall.com), or Cyberseeds (http://www.cyberseeds.com).

Good luck in your search!
