Jatropha is often grown as a houseplant, but it will grow outdoors in your gardening region. Since the plant loses its leaves during the winter months, you can destroy the leaves when they drop to stop the spread of rust. The plants need very little water during the spring and summer months and no water at all in the winter. To keep it healthy, provide lots of good air circulation, and don't get water on the leaves. If symptoms reappear in the spring, even after adjusting the cultural conditions, use a good garden fungicide on your Jatropha.
