Euphorbia Not Blooming - Knowledgebase Question

I planted euphorbia golden spurge from a plant in Spring 98. Also, from seed the variety that looks like cactus. Both grew well but no flowers. Is that because it was the first season? Also, the one that looks like a cactus grew about 5 long branches. It wasn't bushy. I cut it back in Oct. Hope that was okay. Am I doing something wrong?

Euphorbia needs good drainage and full sun to do its best. Generally the main reason for lack of bloom in this plant is lack of sun. The golden spurge blooms very early, so it is possible it bloomed before you planted it. I am not sure which type of euphorbia the rangy one is, so I'm not sure if trimming it back was the right thing to do or not -- some of them are naturally rather lanky in habit. Some varieties are hardier than others, so it is possible, if this one is only marginally hardy where you are, that it does not have enough strength to bloom in your area. It could also be that it simply needed another year of growth under its belt.
