I have a 2 year old amaryllis (red) which does not bloom, why not? |
Amaryllis can be kept alive and be brought back to blossom year after year, but it takes a little work. After the bloom fades, keep the soil moist and fertilize monthly until leaves turn yellow in late summer. The yellowing indicates the amaryllis needs a rest. Cut the leaves back to the neck of the bulbs and store pot and all in a cool (55F), dark, garage or basement. Store them until December or January without watering (or store until bulb shows signs of growth). Replace old soil with fresh soil, and the cycle begins again! Repot every 3-4 years. Enjoy! |
