|Pycnanthemum incanum, or Hoary Mountain Mint has small white to lavender flowers are crowded in dense round clusters in the leaf axils and at the top of the plant. The stem, typical of the mints, is square and hairy. There are hoary bracts underneath the flowers. The flowers are only 1/3" each with an upper and lower lip. The lower lip is frequently purplish or spotted. The flowers form clusters up to 1 1/2" wide. The plant grows 1 - 3' tall and flowers

It grows in dappled shade in rich woods, thickets and along disturbed roadsides and rocky areas in the mountains.
