I would like to plant a vine to grow up a masonry wall on the southwest side of my house, and would prefer a vine that flowers. Could you suggest a flowering vine what can climb masonry walls without a trellis or other support?

Unfortunately, the two vines best suited to climbing a wall unassisted (Virginia creeper and English ivy) are not flowering vines. For the ornamental blooming honesysuckles, trumpet creepers, akebia and so on that would be happy on your hot sunny wall, you would need to provide a support around which they could twine.
